Enough has been done on 2.0 that it’s probably a good idea to release another beta. There is now an unofficial feature freeze on 2.0, and hopefully the protocol won’t need any further tweaks. Linking with 1.2.x servers is still supported as it has been throughout the entire 2.0 line.
We need people to test 2.0, especially in a live environment. Since it can link to 1.2 servers, it’s possible to link a test server to an existing network and get real network traffic, while (hopefully) restricting any stability issues from the new code to the test server. Alternatively, contact us on IRC if you would like information on linking to the inspircd dev/QA testnet.

Inspircd 2.0 beta 2
Mar 19
lightIRC is a free Flash IRC client that includes all well known IRC features.
It supports stylesheets for it’s own skins, has support for multiple languages, and can be used with every IRCd.
lightIRC supports channels, queries, a lot of IRC commands, some CTCP commands and is much customizable through StyleSheets. It has multi language support (currently English, Spanish, German, Turkish, Hungarian, Dutch, Swedish, Finnish, Serbian, Estonian, Romanian) and a nice GUI to set kicks, bans and channel modes.
The client uses a socket to connect directly to the IRC server (no XMLSocket, no gateway).
You need flash policy server running at IRCD’s host. Otherwise the lightIRC client can not connect to your IRCD. Here is a link of how to setup a socket policy server: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashplayer/articles/socket_policy_files.html
Free IRC Bouncer is online again after it was dead for a while. You can get it for free easily at Free IRC Bouncer Section, but do not forget to read FAQ and RULE. Everyone can get it.
The bouncer software is shroudbnc. It’s easy to use compared with psybnc which is more advanced. Enjoy!
KhmerZone IRC Forum
Aug 9
Today, I just registered at KhmerZone Network forum. I ever visited their forum several times but I did not want to register because I am a lazy boy
. They are using Discuz! Forum. I have never installed such forum software before. I guess, it’s not bad and might have some features which other opensource/free forums do not have. That could be the reason why the webmaster chose it.
Webmaster also embeds mibbit in it. So, visitors can go and chat in their IRC network easily even they do not have any IRC client installed.
Their forum is a bit quiet.
Well, I almost forget to mention about KhmerIRC network. It was born in 2005. Some IRC chatters might already know about this network. Currently, they have only one IRC server node. You can connect them with this following address: /server irc.khmerirc.net. Unfortunately, some ISP’s block the access to this server for some various reasons.
Before, they used UnrealIRCD with Anope. Now, the netadmin had switched IRCD software to new modern Inspircd.
Ever think about to run your own IRCD? I guess the irc addicted people might think to run by their own because they can be netadmin and set everything such as rules and network structure.
If you are really new to IRCD setup, I guess you would choose IRCD account instead of IRC-enabled VPS. From my experince, VPS is the better choice. Here are some of my opinion why VPS is better than IRCD account:
- You have root access
- You can install what application you want if it’s allowed in provider’s TOS
- You might be able to run as many process as you want, it depends on your VPS memory
- Setup your own webserver, mysql and other application you want bla bla.. even it has only 64MB RAM
If you could not find any cheap provider, I can give you a list that I ever had vps with them quite some time before:
- http://www.linode.com, i rate it 9/10 for performance, uptime and customer support
- http://www.minivds.com, i rate it 5/10 for performance and 6 for uptime and customer support
- http://www.hostinginside.com, i rate it 6/10 for performance, uptime and customer support
- http://www.rapidswitch.com, i rate it 8/10 for performance, uptime and customer support
Some VPS which you can run IRC things too are:
There are plenty much more in the internet. Just google it, you will find tons of it listed. You can also find some low price vps in: http://www.lowendbox.com/ but not all provider allow you to run IRC related stuff.
When people talk about IRC, IRC client and about how to intergrate their website with IRC, they might think about some application like pjirc, cgi-irc, mibbit and some other more which I do not mention.
Mibbit is the best option to put into your existing website. It does not need flash or java plugins. It needs only browser with javascript enabled. Currently its supports IRC, Yahoo! and Twitter.
Never know it? Here is its homepage for you to find out more: http://www.mibbit.com/
After office hour, I spent a few minutes checking the theme setting of wordpress. It’s really nice, we can set and adjust some sidebar with some default widget. What I prefer the most is about Link and RSS
With RSS widget, I could fetch some recent post from http://www.khmer365.com website and from any site that has RSS feed.
Hmm, it seems that I have much free time today. Oh no! I have other things to do but I do not have feeling to do yet
Before I go to sleep, I have up the old quote site again! http://quote.khmerchat.net
Enjoy posting, sharing IRC or IM quote and let the world know!
I just remember this network after I mentioned about khmerzone in previous post. As far as I know, its network admin split from khmerzone network for some various reasons which I do not know and I do not want to know. :p
You can connect to them via this address: /server irc.camfuture.net. I guess they are running UnrealIRCD and Anope stable version.
